Labor Day Holiday - AJAIC Style!

Happy Labor Day to all of you AJAIC bloggers!!

Labor Day marks the end of the summer for most of us here in the US. Most of you should be back at school and studying really hard. This holiday allows us to enjoy one more weekend of fun with family and friends. The familiar scents of BBQ will fill the air and good times all around! Lets not forget to spend some time with the Lord =)

Labor Day History
I was wondering how this holiday came about here in the US. According to Wikipedia, Labor Day started in the late 1800's with the labor movements in Canada. Organized Labor had protests and demanded better working conditions and fare wages. In 1882, a US labor leader by the name of Peter J. McGuire noticed attended one of the labor festivals hosted in Canada. He returned to the US and organized the first American "labor day" on September 5 of the same year. In 1894, President Grover Cleveland along with Congress, declared it a national holiday.
This holiday was an opportunity for the organized labor to host events and festivals.
Today, the holiday serves as a day of rest and marks the end of the summer.
